ABOUT ME

Megan Norris
In 2006, after working in book editing, public relations, crisis communications, and media relations in a variety of industries, I decided it was time for a change. Immediately after completing my master's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications, I moved from Chicago to Washington, DC, to become a federal law enforcement officer (LEO). I spent 12 years as a LEO, during which time I also became a Training Instructor focused on firearms, physical fitness, mission tactics, and legal and investigative training. I also had the unique opportunity to continue using my writing and editing skills throughout my time as a LEO, not only while teaching such classes as Report Writing, but also during details with my agency's Office of Public Affairs and the Field Operations Division.
Outside of my job requirements over the years, I offered my writing and editing skills to friends, family, coworkers, and referrals to assist with the fine-tuning of their résumés, cover letters, narratives and/or KSA statements when applying for their own job changes or career-advancement opportunities. Though I had to medically retire from my law enforcement job, I continued to assist former coworkers, other members of law enforcement (referred to me through word of mouth), and many others with their writing and editing needs. Hence, I decided to create Norris Editorial & Writing Services.
Since starting my business, I have earned the Certified Professional Résumé Writer (CPRW) credential from the Professional Association of Résumé Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC) to reinforce my expertise with résumés and cover letters. In May 2024, I was awarded First Place in the Federal Résumé Category of PARWCC's Elite Circle Résumé Contest.
In addition to my work on job application documents, I've also been contracted to ghost write articles for various companies, and edit content such as website copy, white papers, OpEds and memos. I've also written articles and edited submissions for GTSC's Homeland Security Today, the premier news and information resource for the homeland security community.
Looking ahead, I am committed to expanding Norris Editorial & Writing Services to help more professionals tell their unique stories effectively, particularly those in law enforcement, homeland security, and government sectors where my specialized background offers distinct insights. I aim to deliver clear, compelling content that resonates with target audiences, and I continue to refine my expertise through ongoing professional development, staying current with evolving industry standards to deliver exceptional results for every client.
